    Brake Wheel Cylinders

The wheel cylinder has two pistons, one on each side.

Each piston has a rubber seal and a shaft that connects the piston with a brake shoe.

When brake pressure is applied, the pistons are forced out pushing the shoes into contact with the drum.

There are  2 types of wheel cylinder:

    • Simple wheel cylinder: the bleeder valve is located on line with the fixing pipe
    • Wheel cylinder with incorporated equalizer: the bleeder valve is out on line with the fixing pipe. This kind of wheel cylinder is more expensive than the simple wheel cylinder.

Wheel cylinders must be rebuilt or replaced if they show signs of leaking.
