    Image Evaporator sensors

    Evaporator sensors

    What are evaporator sensors?

An evaporator sensor is a temperature sensor with two main roles:

    • Detecting the evaporator temperature
    • Preventing the evaporator from freezing by halting cold generation

The sensor detects the temperature and sends it to the control system, which switches off the compressor. The compressor generally disengages when the detected temperature achieves -1°C, and re-engagement occurs at 4°C (values depends on the car maker strategy).

    Where are sensors located?

Sensors are located in one of two places:

    • in the air stream where the air leaves the evaporator
    • attached to the evaporator’s fins and located in the coldest area
